Spring Fishing 2021!

Hi Folks,

For us living on Long Island, the first wave of migrating fish is about to arrive and what better way to get pumped than to watch the action from spring 2020 in this new video .

Are you new to fly fishing? Watch the different locations that hold fish and the flies we use to trigger a strike.

Fishing on a cruise ship. Norwegian Bliss from New York City

Can you fish while on a cruise ship vacation? Yes but you’ll need to do some planning ahead.

Before the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, cruise lines offered several trips from NYC to the Bahamas, and while itineraries vary, they normally make stops in Florida and the Bahamas. This is where you can book a fishing charter and or DIY fishing.

Keep in mind, you’ll only be in port for a few hours, so your fishing charter depends on your disembarkation and all aboard time, but normally you can at least book a half a day charter which is good enough to get the feel for fishing the port of call.

In this video I walk you trough some of the cool stuff to do and where how to fish while aboard the Norwegian Bliss, with stops in Cape Canaveral FL, Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas.

Fall fishing in New York

Fall is rapidly approaching and while it will be sad to see the summer end, New York anglers will see some of the best fishing action of the season as false albacore, striped bass and bluefish prepare for the yearly migration south.

Wit this in mind, here’s a short video on the basics of catching albies from shore using a fly rod, but the same ideas apply to conventional spinning anglers.

Big Bluefish Are Here

This year we are lucky to have the big bluefish back, I’ve found them doing the usual finning and gathering in shallow water, but this action won’t last long. So time to get out and target these gators!

Try using poppers or metals if you are using conventional tackle, move flies (sliders, top water) as fast as they hit the water and as fast as you can to trigger a bite, this is very similar to fly fishing for barracuda.

Most important of all, be careful when landing these fish they are strong and have sharp teeth.

Gator bluefish, Big bluefish fishing! Spring time in Long Island New York

Have you fished for bluefish in the mid-teens? These fish are strong fighters and when they get to be this size they can be a challenge and you need to be ready to safely land and quickly release them.

The following film is all about that early spring body of large bluefish that comes into our shallow Long Island back bays, where they engage in a behavior called “finning”.

Bluefish finning is what we call when their tail and dorsal fins come out of the water, when slowly cruising, barely moving or almost idle on top of the water.

Fly fishing or conventional tackle these fish strong fighters and will crush any top water presentation.

Lets hope they return in good numbers this season!
